What Revolution?
- Blogging – 14 million blogs
- Editorials, and Investigative Journalism, to entertainment, fiction and education

- outnumber radio stations
- 70,000 regularly produced podcasts / vidcasts
- 1.7 million audience
- expanding rapidly while radio declines

=> equal or better intelligence and quality
What are we proposing?
The establishment of a Digicast Society, which would
1) Production Training
- podcast, vidcast and blog production
- variety of regular video and audio series.
- internet TV channel!
- without the expensive of white elephant UCD TV channel
2) Citizen Journalism
- Fallujah (Fal-oo-ja)
- Katrina
3) Digital rights advocacy
- Creative Commons
- Prevent broadcast treaty
- inform students about copyright debate - beyond library notices
4) Training & Equipment
- lending to other societies
a. Pubs columns, reports could be shows
b. Filmmakers distribution
c. Experience in Compression etc for Web
Production Process
- Team makes Show Application
- Checked for filthy rudeness and liable
- Show approved -> all or primary team member attended seminar on equipment, editing, podcasting as needed
- Show added to production schedule
- Show filmed / recorded / Article written
- Pilot Reviewed for filthy rudeness
- Regular show added to => digicastsociety.com
- Wealth & Fame flow your way!
How many podcasters in Trinity
- Hard to Know with no society representing!
- How many film makers were there before film makers?
- How many people making radio before TFM?
- TFM have had interest - huge growth in area
Why is this proposed Society Unique?
The proposed Digicast society would provide a variety of services that a) are not currently being provided by any society in college, and b) could not be provided in toto by any existing society.
Why Couldn’t any of the computer societies provide these service?
- Netsoc & DUCCS
- no media equipment
- no focus on digital distribution
- no experience
- no digital rights aspect
- no citizen journalism aspect
- Many of our signatures were gathered at DUCCS AGM!
Why couldn’t Filmmakers provide these services?
- Literary soc - Pubs
- Few films - High Production values
- Expensive equipment - very strictly not lent except for features

- Audio & Video
- Education & Lending with cheap portable equipment
- Syndication & Distribution
Why couldn’t the Digital Art’s society provide these services?
- Use Equipment from Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering
- Focus on one off events and art work
- Music and Media students
Why couldn’t Trinity FM provide these services?
- broadcast radio - live web stream
- six weeks -> organised around
- static equipment - computer resources
Digisoc
- Podcasting and Digicasting completely different to streaming
- Legal, licensing, training & equipment
- liable more important
- copyright precludes much music / recordings => except CC
- shows pre-recorded not live
- equipment portable => essential to lend - for compression, editing etc
- for broadcast weeks TFM is not available for recording
Why are we proposing this now?
- provisional status as a society
- formal activities in Freshers
- gain sponsorship over summer
